Move Well

Move WellExercise is essential for good health
.  Humans evolved as physically active organisms (hunter-gatherers).   Our genetic make-up has been created and evolved in an environment of daily exercise, some of which would have been rigorous.

Exercise is essential for a healthy cardiovascular system.  Aerobic exercise has the following health benefits:

  • Lowers blood pressure and resting heart rate.
  • Improves the lipid (fat) constitution of the blood.
  • Decreases vasoconstriction and the chance of blood clots (thrombosis).

Exercise is essential for a healthy nervous system.

Exercise improves brain health by increasing cerebral blood flow via a healthy cardiovascular system.

Exercise increases spinal movement.  Moving joints send positive signals (proprioception) to the brain.  In response the brain sends positive signals to the body.  That’s why you feel better when you exercise.

Lack of exercise not only decreases the movement in the joints inhibiting proprioception, but sends negative signals (nociception) to the brain.  In response the brain sends negative signals to the body causing a stress response decreasing health.

Exercise deficiency creates movement deficiency resulting in bone and soft tissue degeneration.

Subluxation creates a segmental movement deficiency which has the same effect as exercise deficiency.

Chiropractic adjustments work in the same way exercise does, by restoring movement to the joints and stimulating proprioception.

Daily exercise and regular chiropractic adjustments are as important to the health of our spines as daily dental hygiene and regular dental check-ups are to the health of our teeth.

Research suggests that approx. 30-50% of all cases of type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, and many cancers were prevented by 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise (walking) each day in middle aged woman compared with those who exhibited lower levels of physical activity.

The effects of exercise on our health are dose-related and reciprocal!
